So Kil and I have been noticing something for a few years now. If we do a "good" deed, it doesn't mean something good will happen to us in return (actually, it usually means something crappy comes up), not that that matters. But, we can't help but notice that when we give someone money, money comes back. It's freaking weird, and always happens within two weeks of when the original money was given, and typically is a higher sum if we gave money to multiple people. It can be that we just gave 50 cents to a bum, or that someone needed some cash, though it only seems to happen if it's a stranger rather than a friend. Without fail, within two weeks, we'll find money on the ground. It can be a dime, or a 20 dollar bill, but it usually averages out to more than we gave. We joke about it, but it is fairly bizarre how it does always seem to work out that way.
So, Kil had given three individuals some cash this week. We headed out to the beer store (no really, it's called "the Beer Store") to grab some alcoholic brew and so good-it-doesn't-need-alcohol root beer. Kil pointed out that there was a dollar in the parking lot, so I happily launched after it. ...Then I found a 20. I told Kil that it looked like someone's wallet had dropped, and he said "yeah, let's go see if anyone in the store lost their's and leave the cash with the clerks (they are super nice, friendly, honest people)". But then I saw another 20, and another. ...And a ten, and a twenty. I grabbed it all up before the wind blew the bills any farther, and we ended up with about 180 bucks in cash. Right as we were grabbing the last bills, we notice a guy looking around on hands and knees. He had lost his wallet...and his green card with it. Poor guy was frantic. He tried to get us to keep all the cash if we could just find his wallet. Turns out he had just cashed his two weeks pay ($200 for two weeks work? Been there buddy, it sucks), but he was only worried about his green card, because this is his second, and they probably won't give him another. Wish I could say there was a definite happy ending, but even though he had only gone the length of three buildings, we couldn't find the wallet. True to the money-karma though, he demanded that we keep a 20. He tried for a 40, but Kil managed to convince him we were "practically the same person", because he is awesome like that. But, it covered the money Kil had doled out this week, plus 10 bucks to spare, which definitely helps us out. The two girls who run the store were awesome, and one of them is reviewing their cameras to see if anyone picked up the wallet. Because really, judging by the way the bills had blown, it should have been right in their parking lot. I know many people are more interested in stealing credit cards then cash these days, but you'd think they'd have gone after the 20 dollar bills blowing around, if someone did indeed take it. Kil's going to check back next week to see what happens with that. So, let's hope that the guy gets his card back at least, and contemplate the possibility that a CEO watches over us all. Creepily. Doling out money for kicks.

And I totally believe in karma! It likes to come back and bite me in the ass.

and vice versa until it all equals out.
I hope that guy finds his card, good on you for doing the right thing and helping him out!
I must say that your turning money wheel theory really is a catchy thought.
On top of that, the idea of karma (again, in the Western sense) bugs me. It's like some of my relatives and acquaintances (because you don't stay a friend if you do this). They do something for you (and it might not even be something you want or asked for), and they later hold it over people for something in return. Not just rewards per say, but often use it as an attempt to change the way a person lives. "I'll help you pay your medical bill if you stop being a homosexual and embarrassing the family" sort of a thing. So, I'm not big on things like the Christian heaven and karma and such where the idea behind it is "do good things because then you get a reward". I like "treat others kindly because you should" much better.
I'm also really wary of people and myself labeling things as "good" or "kind". That is something I see abused so often, I'd be here typing all day, and I don't want to have you trudge through that rambling mess. XD But whether it leads to holier-than-though attitudes, or just good intentions gone wrong, it's something to be cautious and aware of.
That's really something though, with you and the money. Are there many immigrants in your area? I sure do hope that he gets his green card back.
It's good, for me, to hear events like this. It reassures me that there are still good people, such as you, in the world who care enough for those around them.
