Calling all Projects

Mon Jul 6, 2009, 6:37 PM
Yay, I had Kil read out what I have so far on the comic script, and he couldn't do it in one reading. Makes me feel like some sort of progress is, er, progressing. Still, they've barely begun their lessons and journey, and have a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go. Plus, I plan to have people edit the hell out of this before it even thinks about being sketched out. Some of the scenes I'm really excited about sharing, others...hopefully people's critique can help me fix. I just hope to finish this darn thing before I'm 50, so I can go on to the next one.

So, who here is working on a story? A comic? Some other project? How's that going? Where do you hope your project goes (ie. online posting, publishing, more?) What helps you write/draw/become inspired?

Love seeing what other people are up to. Makes me happy to see so many people doing what they love, and exploring their world in such creative ways.

I'm attempting to write a novel, which has been an off-on not-really-serious project for the last few years, but after a creative writing course I'm getting determined to flesh the thing out and get it published.

Good luck with your comic. Maybe I missed this, but what's it about?

I wish I had the motivation to do something like that. 8[[[

Good luck to anyone else, including you. C:

I'm working on a comic :D

I have a couple of projects going on right now. My fox story is the one I'm working on right now. Basically what it sounds like, a story about a pair of mated foxes, Pinita and Tristan, and how they deal with some negative events in their lives. I'm trying to keep that one as true to true fox life as I can while still making a good story with characters people can sympathize with. I'm not sure exactly what medium I'm going to use for that though. I may make it a full out comic, or more recently I've contemplated making it something like a heavily illustrated novella or something...
The other, larger project is a sort of steam/dieselpunk story in an alternate universe, with all kinds of crazy technology and politicking etc. That one is much more visual, so I'll definitely make it a comic. That one is also meant to make more of a statement, whereas the fox story is more personal, and therefore easier for me to write/create.
The steampunk comic is just barely started. I have a theme, and a couple of vague characters and settings, but not much else.

Both will just be more stuff on the internet though. No publishing or anything. And Music. Music is what inspires me. I listen to all kinds. One minute I might be listening to Beethoven, and the next I'll have KMFDM playing. Each genre and song has its place. A lot of industrial and metal for the steampunk stuff, for the fox story, more melancholy flamenco guitar or violin tunes, or other softer music.

Oh sweet! People novel or animal? Novels are always really interesting, because it seems like people typically put a lot of their experiences and thoughts into them.

It's an animal adventure comic set in the Nepal/Bhutan region of Asia. It's supposed to just be a little thing before I work on some more serious projects, but it's still taken a ton of research. XD

People, though there will be animals and some weirder beasties. If I ever finish the darn thing, that is! I'm totally jealous of people who have the patience for comics. With typical writing story, you can make it up as you go along. Comics have to be so precise; it really says something about a person.

Oh cool. What sort of animals are you thinking of putting in?

I'm currently working on a comic, as the visual half of the creative team. The hope is to be published eventually, though we're still fighting with finishing the first issue. Lately inspiration has been difficult; since because I haven't found a summer job and am not taking classes, it's hard for me to manage my time well. But I am doing my darndest to fix that problem. ;) It's been fun, though humbling to work through problems that I've taken for granted ...because the people who write my favorite comics are talented enough to solve those problems.

I have that griffin story of mine still on the backburner... after a couple attempts at starting a comic, I've been leaning back toward my original idea of writing the story as a novel. My current comic is probably going to keep my main focus away from it for a while. I don't have any lofty goals for it yet, except to really get it rolling sometime. I think it's a pretty cool idea, so I wouldn't mind if it went anywhere.

I’ve been working on a project called the “Werewolf Guide” for over a year now. It’s basically just a bunch of entries (some writing on a topic plus an illustration) posted on DA in the style of a documentary discussing behavior, anatomy, history, etc. of the werewolf species I created. The main goal is a combination of trying to set rules for my species and help keep them straight, and introduce people to the idea of werewolves being something other than movie monsters.

One of my other, newer projects is a mythology comic. It isn’t really in a formal comic style though, so far I feel like using a really free flowing panel-less style with just a few pictures to illustrate a story. I’ve done a creation myth introducing the five main gods, but I’m thinking of doing other comics in the same style to illustrate other stories.

Not trying to get anything published, it’s all just for fun.

I take a lot of inspiration from dreams. I often use them to create stories (used two different ones to give me the idea for the mythology comic).
